[ooc] The New, Improved Character Survey of Doom
The New, Improved Character Survey of Doom
So there's this meme going around! Except some of the questions sucked, and a lot of them were repetitive, and it left out a bunch of stuff that we were just dying to ramble about. SO:
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Thin, average young adult male height.
2. How old is he?
20.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
His posture often leans on the side of feminine.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He appears to be in normal health.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He isn't overly clumsy, but there are many more athletic than him. He's a little tense.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He tries to put on a look that's "fashionable" and "edgey", and is satisfied as long as his look seems to achieve that. He doesn't worry about it that much, though.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Garry could stand to get out more; his skin is kinda pale. No scars, but he could take better care of his skin.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Unkempt medium-length waves with black spider-like extensions fountaining from the top.
9. What color are his eyes?
Black with hints of dark brown.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
His ragged coat.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Shoulders and back.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He likes unusual, edgey shapes in his clothes, but doesn't try hard to keep up-to-date with trends at all. He really ought to buy more clothes. They're all somewhat muted, dark colors, earthy tones.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Yes, although his pants are often too long.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
His job is part-time and has a required uniform.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Briefs.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Slightly higher-pitched than the average young man.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He speaks calmly most of the time, very evenly, and not loudly.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He has verbal tics that a woman is more likely to use. The level of formality he uses seems high considering his ragged look.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
He only knows his native language.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
His formality will drop if his emotions are high.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Most times he can think of what to say, but unusual circumstances will cause him to pause.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Not particularly one or the other, he's rather run-of-the-mill.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's not very book-smart or street-smart, and sometimes relies on instinct in a pinch.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He'll take the time to deliberate in most cases.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He's rather intuitive and idealistic, trusting in the hope that things will work out as long as you try hard.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He went straight from high school to the working world.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's mainly a renaissance man who doesn't excel very much in any one field. He likes learning new things, but just generally, and then he's on to the next thing.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
He might change back and forth depending on the situation.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Most times Garry is somewhere between calmly curious and cheerful, though he's pretty vocal when surprised.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Before his visit to the Guertena art exhibit, he had no reason not to trust new people he met. Since then, he's been just a touch more timid. Depending on how much time passed after the incident, he became more trusting and relaxed once more.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
In a pinch, he will act.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
He would prefer to flee, but his sense of protectiveness, and in some cases his anger, may provoke him enough to fight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
His sense of humor is a little stunted, and often misses the point of the joke.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
He seems not to.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
The incident at the art museum made him cherish each day a little more, and motivated him to live life with a slightly more head-on attitude.
14. What does he fear?
Returning to Guertena's world.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To become someone who can protect the weak and succeed, no matter what.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
It may remain a mystery... Really, or maybe he isn't hiding anything at all.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
They did their own thing, so he did his own thing, pretty much. He prefers living on his own, but if he visits home they have a bad for him to sleep in. They live separate lives, but he is grateful to them for their support, and feels that everyone should have the kind of parental support that he had.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Nope.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?

He sees Ib as a little sister, without a doubt.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Ib. In the game~
6. Does he have other close friends?
Perhaps not what you would call a "close friend", but he feels sympathy for the little girl they found in Guertena's world...

He makes friends with people who have open minds and are also friendly! If they are prickly thorns, then he'll be prickly back at them.

Unmarried.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Openness, honesty, and steadfastness.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Doesn't have any, but might consider it later on down the road.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Even though it was unfortunate, it was unquestionable that Mary ended up one.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
I play him as a 1.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
He might like it more often than he has it, but he can subsist off erotic materials.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
No dolls and no getting tied up or anything BSDM or anything involving pain, please!! Sex should be happy and comfortable, in his world, with consent being completely clear to both partners. It sometimes ends up ruining the moment for his partner, which is a shame, but he'd rather end it before either party's body was invaded unwillingly.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Just your basic killing and stealing are bad kind of deal. Bodily safety obviously is prioritized over possessions, and he will lay down his own body to save someone he is trying to protect from death.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He might bluntly express his differing opinion, but immediately shrug about it; everyone's different, in the end.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
DOLLS ARE BAD

It's stayed the same for the most part.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?

Spends his free time mostly cooking and cleaning for himself at home...
